UNITISED SYSTEM, Commonly 2 or 4 side structural silicone glazed
PRINCIPAL The unitised system is factory assembled and glazed into individual units, commonly known as panels. The panels are generally one floor in height and made to a width which co-ordinates with other building elements such as column, ceiling or partition layout. The system is installed from within the building structure and the panels interlock upon installation to form a structural, weather tight skin over the building frame.
ADVANTAGES Technologically advanced employing principals of
pressure equalization and drained joints along with laboratory testing to either ASTM or AS/NZS standards to ensure structural, air and water penetration resistance performance. High quality of assembly and
glazing due to factory control. Speed of installation. Immediate weather protection of the building upon installation.
Variety of performance glass and cladding materials easily adapted to
the system.
APPLICATION Primarily suited to the high rise building market, both commercial and high quality residential (condominium) markets, where a long life, high durability, high performance, low maintenance façade skin is required.
STICK SYSTEM, typically 4 side captive glazed, but maybe 2 side structural silicone glazed, 4 side structural silicone glazed not recommended.
PRINCIPAL The stick system is site installed from single components, usually factory machined, known as “sticks”. The sticks are anchored to the building structure, or each other, both vertically and horizontally forming a grid pattern, into which the glazing or cladding panels are installed. The vertical sticks (mullions) can span one or two floors and then require joining together to continue on. The mullion spacing can be varied similar to unitized to suit column, ceiling or internal wall layout. The system is commonly installed from outside the building structure and is not a weather resisting installation until the site installed glazing is complete.
ADVANTAGES More economical than unitised, subject to the selection
of glazing or cladding materials. On site flexibility as the system may be installed in a number of locations on site at the same time.
Can be selectively removed and replaced at a later date to facilitate access for plant of equipment.
APPLICATION Suitable for installations where absolute environmental performance is not required. Low rise developments such as factories, warehouses, retail complexes, and where large area cladding is
required.
ALUMINIUM FRAMED SKYLIGHT AND CANOPY SYSTEM
PRINCIPAL An aluminium frame structure similar to a stick wall is
usually constructed on the job site. Dependant on the required span and area of the work, a steel structure may be required to support the aluminium system due to the economical limitations of aluminium construction. Glass or other cladding materials are able to be installed.
ADVANTAGES Provides natural lighting. Provides cover from prevailing weather conditions.
APPLICATION Suitable for commercial office building entrances,
building linkways, shopping mall roofing.
FRAMELESS GLASS SKYLIGHT AND CANOPY SYSTEM
PRINCIPAL The frameless glass panels are attached to either patch or spider type fittings. These fittings are in turn attached to a supporting structure. Due to the possible instability of the rod and cable structures
in the horizontal mode, limitations on span occur and often the support structure is required to be a more conventional column and beam or space frame arrangement to co-ordinate with the patch or spider locations. The entire edges of all glass panels require to be silicone sealed to make the installation weatherproof.
ADVANTAGES Provides for greater amount of natural light to enter compared to framed systems.
APPLICATION Suitable for all size overhead glass applications, commercial office entrances, building linkways, etc.
PRINCIPAL Glass panels are installed in a continuous row to form a transparent barrier to provide safety to the perimeter of areas.
Similarly to frameless glass wall systems, balustrades can be designed, manufactured and installed in a variety of structural options from fully frameless to patch fitting designs to fully framed applications.
ADVANTAGE Glass balustrade offers the aspect of safety for occupants while providing the appearance of open space due to the high degree of transparency. Glass offers low maintenance and is not a material which
is generally subject to fatigue of corrosion over time.
APPLICATION As a barrier for human safety on balconies, staircases, landings, display areas, swimming pool enclosures or simply partitions, where ever required.
PERFORMANCE WINDOWS
PRINCIPAL Conceived on the structural and weatherproofing principles of unitized curtain wall. The system is factory assembled and glazed into individual units. The individual units can be made to a height and width which co-ordinates with other building elements such as columns,
ceilings and partition layouts. The system is installed from within the building structure and units interlock upon installation to form a structural, weather tight skin.
ADVANTAGES Technologically advanced as for unitized curtain wall.
High quality due to factory manufacture and control. Speed of
installation. Immediate weather protection and security of the building upon installation. The system can accept opening sashes, casement, awning or sliding, as required and high performance glass applications due to its commonality with unitized curtain construction.
APPLICATION Primarily suited to the commercial high rise building market, offices and hotels, where a long life, high durability, high performance, low maintenance window is required.
BUDGET COMMERCIAL WINDOWS
PRINCIPAL Factory or job site assembled, job site installed and glazed.
ADVANTAGES Quite economical. Able to be installed at any time during the job construction cycle. Able to accept opening sashes, casement, awning or sliding, along with hinged and sliding doors.
APPLICATION Primarily suited to the residential housing market,
modest condominiums, factory and warehouse.
PERFORMANCE RESIDENTIAL WINDOWS AND DOORS
PRINCIPAL Western design, factory manufactured and glazed.
ADVANTAGES High quality product. Slim profile providing maximum glass and light area. Able to accept performance glass.
High security with key locking function. Able to accept opening sashes, casement, awning and sliding along with sliding doors.
APPLICATION High quality residential housing and condominium
market.
ALL GLASS SYSTEM
PRINCIPAL Single glass panels spanning from floor to ceiling combined with structural glass vertical ribs, known as “fins”, at each vertical glass panel joint, all silicone sealed together to provide structural integrity and weatherproofing.
ADVANTAGE Maximum uninterrupted vision and light transmission.
APPLICATION Typically, store fronts, showrooms and display spaces where only one floor in height is required. Can be used over multiple floors but requires to be separated at each floor level. Can be used in conjunction with framed or frameless doors.
PATCH OR SPIDER FITTING SYSTEM
PRINCIPAL Single glass panels can be joined together to span large areas exceeding the size of one panel of glass. The glass panels employ a structural mechanical connection using a machined metal component known as a “patch” or a “spider”. A patch is usually a bracket which clamps flat against the face of adjoining glass panels and fins.
The spider is a bracket which stands off the face of glass and derives its name due to its likeness to a spider with its legs extended.
ADVANTAGES Can span larger areas and be self supporting without the requirement for other forms of structural support. Maintains a high degree of visual and light transparency.
APPLICATION Best suited to mid sized storefront, showroom or commercial office building entries where a setback mezzanine floor situation exists.
TENSION ROD/CABLE STAY SYSTEMS
PRINCIPAL Glass panels can be joined together to span large areas, using a truss type support structure built from very small section tubular rods and cables. The truss structure attaches to the glass via the spider fittings.
ADVANTAGES Can span large vertical areas and be self supporting.
The rod and cable structure limits the amount of obstruction to the vision and light transmission features of the system. The rod and cable structure has a large appeal to the architectural needs of the installation.
APPLICATION Suitable for very large sized installations such as airports and shopping malls.
SOLID ALUMINIUM SHADE SYSTEM
PRINCIPAL Large profile aluminium extrusions are assembled together to form a solid assembly.
The assembly usually has inherent strength and is capeable of spanning large distances either horizontally or vertically as required.
The assembly is attached to the external building structure or curtain
wall system using purpose designed brackets or attachment details.
ADVANTAGE The sun shade system provides purpose designed control of light, glare and heat entering the habitable portion of the building.
Architectural features can be designed into the profiles as required.
Can be “fixed” or “operable” systems to make advantage of prevailing conditions throughout the whole year.
APPLICATION Suitable anywhere permanent heat, glare and light control is required. Suitable also where Architectural features are required to be formed by projections on the surface of the building.
LOUVRE BLADE SYSTEMS
PRINCIPAL An aluminium profile perimeter frame is constructed and purpose designed aluminium profile shaped blades are installed to form
a whole assembly. The assembly is attached to the external building structure or curtain wall system using purpose designed brackets or attachment details.
ADVANTAGES Provides purpose designed control of light, glare and
heat entering the habitable portion of the building.
Can be fixed or operable systems.
PRINCIPAL Aluminium composite is a factory manufactured sandwich panel consisting of an aluminium skin on both sides with a resin or mineral core. It is available in different thicknesses, 3mm, 4mm and 6mm, generally, depending on the application. The external face has a factory applied polymer paint finish as part of the original manufacturing process, available in a large variety of colours. The original sheets are cut, folded and sealed in the factory or job site and mechanically
attached to a stick system support frame which is attached to the
building structure.
ADVANTAGES The cladding material is of consistently high quality as it
is fully manufactured in one operation in a controlled automated factory environment. The cladding system is light weight, strong yet flexible and very weather resistant, resulting in a low maintenance, long life product.
The mineral core sheet is fire resistant and suitable for use in locations where fire risk is high or where regulation requires fire resistant materials. The original cladding sheet sizes may be as large as 1.5m x 6.0m. The cladding can be easily re-cut into smaller sizes and fabricated to suit the application or co-ordinate with adjoining window or curtain wall systems.
APPLICATION Suitable for almost any sheet cladding application.
Used extensively as cladding to external walls, columns, beams capping, and as infill panels in curtain walls where glass is not desired.
